Trusted King Inka Waskar, ruler of our people and true Sapa Inca, we have met with men from across the great water and heard messages from villages in the north. These men have come in the name of a strange creator, not Viracocha. They have new foods and new animals they brought on their large war-boats. Manco Capac has given us knowledge of growing crops and sharing them in our cities, but these España bring crops we do not know. With his guidance, we have gathered to discuss if it is good to welcome these strange men into our lands to share their crops and learn their ways.
People from the land called España sailed with a magnificent ship, and although they do not have as many people as we do, they carry weapons made out of metal called steel, which we Incas have never seen. Their weapons are so powerful they can kill an animal from far away with one shot. If we can also obtain these powerful weapons called guns and gun powder, we can hunt more efficiently and protect our land from other tribes. The España also brought a tall and fast beast called the caballo which can carry crops in times of peace and warriors in times of battle. Some of the other animals they bring can be eaten or give nutritious milk and they bring many fabrics that would keep us warm in the long winters. In exchange, the España want our Incan products such as potatoes, maize, quinoa, wool, red dye and especially metals like silver, copper and gold.
We propose we can stay self sufficient with very limited short-term trading with the España because they have a greater knowledge in weaponry. Trading with them will advance our way of living by giving us a stronger defense, guaranteeing the safeguarding of our culture and sustaining a safer, more protected way of life. Right now, because we have very weak knowing compared to these España we should be wary in making a trade. We do not have power to fight them off and can rely on only our greater numbers. The España have proven to us that these magnificent items they have brought are indeed worth much, but are they worth the sacrifice of our people and culture to these outsiders? With these kinds of things the world will change immensely. Quick trading may be our only option for fear of losing ourselves in the trade. We can attempt to trade with the España for a limited time, and then close all routes and access they have to our land and drive them out.
We believe limited trade will benefit us in our greatest good, to strengthen our ability to defend our land and people. We shall open trade to expand our limited resources of weapons with iron, and steel and also trade for large beasts. Building our supply of these goods will give us the ability to drive the España from our lands and keep us safe.
They also bring with them their God, which could anger Inti and bring harm to our crops. If we keep trading with them, they may force their religion on us and gain control over us. Their money is strange, and changes hands as a promise instead of real crops. They do not speak our language and do not share our way of life. They also treat many people as slaves to work their lands and cook their food. We fear what may happen to the Tawantinsuyu if the España put us under their feet and take our families. They have already spread their sickness upon our people. Many of us have died and this situation will keep making us weaker over time, giving them opportunity to overpower us and causing us to be conquered by them and their ideas. They will invade our way of life, the true culture of our people and our traditions, eventually ruling over our land and enslaving our people. Let us trade with them for only a season…
